Overview
Our very first project of my freshman year was to create a Rube Goldberg machine. In the past I had done other Rube Goldberg machines, but this one was different. We were told to create the most complicated way of doing a simple task, such as feeding a fish. My group and I started out by brainstorming what our simple action would be. We came up with feeding a fish. From there we decided the theme of our machine, which was the ocean. We then moved on to creating the steps. We had to have at least 5 simple machines in our project so with that knowledge we created a 10 step machine. 1. Ball swings to hit Dominoes 2. Dominoes topple over hitting toy car 3. Toy car rolls down inclined plane and hits lever 4. lever hits marble into tube 5. Marble goes into tube 6. marble hits other marble and goes into screw 7. Marble hits weighted end of pulley 8. Pulley pulls block off of wedge 9. Wedge slides down inclined plane 10. Fish food is knocked over into the bowl. After this, we drew a detailed blueprint so that we would know where everything would go. Down below is a document of our construction log which shows when we built certain things on certain days. |
